Mickley Village Primary
& Nursery School

Welcome

At Mickley Village Primary and Nursery School we believe that all children deserve the best start to their education that we can give. We are able to accommodate children from the village and surrounding areas. We are fully accessible for disabled visitors and pupils, with ramped access and accessible toilet facilities. This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing up to date information for parents, pupils and the wider community.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and the safety and well being of our children is at the forefront of all our school activities. Visitors will be asked to prove their identity prior to being admitted into school and this may be further checked with the Governing Bodies of agencies if further clarification is needed.

Our site is situated in Mickley Village, Stretton, near Alfreton, Derbyshire. We are a small school with 4 classrooms split over two buildings, plus a school hall, group room and library. Each class is supported by at least one Teaching Assistant. The school was given Primary School status in September 2022 and will roll out year on year until it is a full Primary school which is estimated to be in September 2025. We currently have children up to Year 4.

We are very proud of our school which was rated as "Good" with "Outstanding behaviour and safety" in 2017.

We have extensive grounds including two trim Trails and a Forest School area. We also have a large canopy area to encourage outdoor activities in all seasons. We aim to offer excellent support for all children before they start, during their time with us and as they move on to Key Stage 3.

We encourage a friendly relationship between home and school and are happy to discuss your child's progress with you at any point during the school year as well as at formal parent meetings. The staff value the contributions that parents and the community make to the school.

Mickley Village Primary and Nursery School is part of the five pits cluster of schools and follow the memorandum of understanding for the cluster.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school direct with any queries you may have. Paper copies of any information from our website please contact the school office.

We would like all our children to wear school uniform. We have a selection of pre-loved uniform available in school. New uniform can be ordered from the school office or online. We are currently changing our uniform supplier to be able to offer parents a better price and better service. We do have a school emblem on our uniform but any royal blue cardigan or jumper is acceptable. We also sell polo shirts through our supplier and PE kits but you may find that they are better value from elsewhere. We do not insist on emblems on the polo shirts - a plain white polo shirt is fine! Our colours are royal blue cardigan / jumper and grey / black trousers / skirt with white polo shirts.

Since Covid 19 we have asked that children come into school ready in their PE kits on PE days. This has actually allowed the children to have more time for physical activity as they are spending less time changing and looking for lost clothing! We will continue to ask that children come to school ready for PE when it is their PE days. This will remain on Monday for Key Stage 1 / 2. Please ensure that children have suitable warm clothing and footwear for both indoors and outdoors.
