Our school day

Our School Day

The school day begins at 8.45am and ends at 3.15pm.

The doors open at 8.35am and will be closed at 8.45am. Children will enter the school through their own classroom doors. If children arrive after this time they will need to enter through the main entrance to the school so that they can be signed in at reception. Our learning begins at 8.45am, therefore any child arriving after this time will be given a late mark.

On arrival all children are offered breakfast before registration closes. This is funded by the Greggs foundation who help to fund breakfast clubs throughout the country.

There will be a morning break which classes will take at the best times for them to optimise learning. All children are offered a healthy snack at break time, additionally children under 5 are all offered a drink of milk as well as their snack.

Lunchtime is between 12 noon and 1pm. For the first half term of the academic year reception children will enter the dinner hall at the earlier time of 11.45am to help them settle into the lunchtime routine.

It is important that children attend school every day. If your child is too ill to attend please inform the school office no later than 9am.

Please ensure any appointments are made outside of school hours where possible. We understand this isn't always possible so in the event that your child needs to attend an appointment during school hours please bring in your appointment card/letter.

Holidays during term time are not permitted unless there are exceptional circumstances, please see our attendance policy for more details. Penalty notices may be issued for unauthorised absences.

Registration is taken twice daily at 8.45am and 1pm. Children arriving after these times will be given a late mark on the register.

Nursery

Nursery Children start at 8.45am and finish at 11.45am. We can offer nursery places to children from the term after their 3rd birthday, please ask at the school office if you are unsure when this would fall. Our places are limited due to this being a mixed nursery and reception class and therefore we sometimes cannot offer places to all that apply. From January 2024 we can once again offer 30 hour funded nursery places to eligible children, if you are interested in this please contact the school office for more details.

Assembly

We hold assemblies each day, the time is dependant on the school timetable so varies. We have Gold Assembly every Friday morning at 9am. Each week parents will be invited to celebrate their children's achievements in school if they have received an individual award eg. certificate/ribbon/Dojo master. Parents will be notified if their child is going to be receiving an award via Parenthub.

Snacks and Water

Fruit is offered to children at break time and every child is provided with a water bottle and encouraged to drink fresh water throughout the school day.

PE Days

Children is KS1 will take part in PE lessons twice weekly and children will be asked to attend school in their PE kit on this day (weather appropriate clothing must be worn). For more information on PE days please speak to the class teacher.

After School Clubs

We offer a variety of after school clubs which will change each half term. There will usually we a sports club on offer lead by our AVSSP sports coach Miss Naylor and another club lead by staff members. Details of the clubs and how to sign up will be sent out each term via Parenthub.

READING

We have recently changed our reading scheme to Collins Big Cat in line with phonics. We value reading at home and at school and ask that children read at home regularly. Reading is the key to all learning and an especially important skill to learn.
