Explorers

Welcome to Explorers Class!

Explorers class is a mixed age class for Nursery and Reception age children. We aim to give all children the best possible start to their education through practical learning activities. The majority of our Nursery children attend mornings only and Reception children stay for the full day. They are taught by Mrs Gregg (Teacher), Mrs Vardy (Teacher), Mrs Seward( Part Time Teaching Assistant) and Mrs Hardy (Part Time Teaching Assistant). If you have any questions about the Foundation Stage Curriculum please talk to any of our fantastic team.

Autumn Term 2 2024

I Wonder......How do we celebrate?

In Literacy reception children will be exploring the Literacy Tree writing root 'Knowing Yourself'. We will be exploring the book 'Look Up!'

Nursery children will be learning different nursery rhymes such as Down at the Station, I'm a Little Teapot, The Grand Old Duke of York and Hickory Dickory. We will share the story 'Kipper's Birthday' and 'Room on the Broom'. They will be exploring the rhymes, sounds and alliteration within the nursery rhymes during their phonics sessions.

In Maths we will be following the White Rose Maths scheme.

Reception will be covering circles and triangles and 1,2,3,4,5 which will give children the opportunity to recognise amounts, subitise and represent numbers.

Nursery children will be exploring the numbers 1,2,3. They will have opportunity to hear the number names in order, sing songs including those numbers, find numbers within books and represent the numbers using fingers.

In Understanding the World the children will be learning about materials. We will explore the difference between living and non-living and changes in materials such as melting and freezing. We are learning about different celebrations such as Birthdays and Christmas and key events such as Bonfire Night and Remembrance Day.

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) our topic is 'Celebrating Difference'.

Our PE day is a Monday. On a Monday, we have PE with our coach from Amber Valley Sports Partnership. Children will need to come into school in their PE kit on their PE day. This is for reception children only.

Home learning

In reception, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme. The children take home a reading book each week that closely links with their phonics stage. We encourage them to read this as much as possible over the week before returning it to school. You can also take a look at the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Resources for Parents page: For parents | Letters and Sounds (littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk)

We use Tapestry to document your child's learning at school. We encourage you to share any experiences, achievements or successes your child has at home by uploading photos, videos and observations to Tapestry.
