Explorers

Welcome to Explorers Class!

Explorers class is a mixed age class for Nursery and Reception age children. We aim to give all children the best possible start to their education through practical learning activities. The majority of our Nursery children attend mornings only and Reception children stay for the full day. They are taught by Mrs Gregg (Teacher), Mrs Vardy (Teacher), Mrs Seward( Part Time Teaching Assistant) and Mrs Hardy (Part Time Teaching Assistant). If you have any questions about the Foundation Stage Curriculum please talk to any of our fantastic team.

Summer Term 1 2024

In Literacy we will be exploring the book 'Weirdo' by Zadie Smith and Nick Laird.

In Maths reception children will be exploring numbers beyond 10. We will be exploring how to manipulate, compose and make arrangements with shapes.

Nursery children will develop their maths skills by comparing quantities using language 'more than/fewer than' and developing mathematical language to describe and understand position. We will be exploring 2D shapes.

In Understanding the World the children will be exploring maps; locating places on a map and creating our own maps.

The reception children will be going on a geography trip to Sheffield to explore the city center.

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) our topic is 'Relationships'.

Our PE day is a Monday. On a Monday, we have PE with our coach from Amber Valley Sports Partnership. Children will need to come into school in their PE kit on their PE day. This is for reception children only.

Home learning

In reception, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme. The children take home a reading book each week that closely links with their phonics stage. We encourage them to read this as much as possible over the week before returning it to school. You can also take a look at the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Resources for Parents page: For parents | Letters and Sounds (littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk)

We use Tapestry to document your child's learning at school. We encourage you to share any experiences, achievements or successes your child has at home by uploading photos, videos and observations to Tapestry.
