Explorers

Welcome to Explorers Class!

Explorers class is a mixed age class for Nursery and Reception age children. We aim to give all children the best possible start to their education through practical learning activities. The majority of our Nursery children attend mornings only and Reception children stay for the full day. They are taught by Mrs Gregg (Teacher), Mrs Vardy (Teacher), Mrs Seward( Part Time Teaching Assistant) and Mrs Hardy (Part Time Teaching Assistant). If you have any questions about the Foundation Stage Curriculum please talk to any of our fantastic team.

In Maths reception children will be practising being able to recall number bonds to 10 and finding doubles. In White Rose we will 'Visualise, Build and Map' and reception children will be creating patterns, describing pattern and positions.

Nursery children will develop their maths skills by looking for patterns in the environment and continuing an ABAB pattern.

In Understanding the World the children will be learning about food and where it comes from and exploring the world around us.

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) our topic is 'Changing Me'.

Our PE day is a Monday. On a Monday, we have PE with our coach from Amber Valley Sports Partnership. Children will need to come into school in their PE kit on their PE day. This is for reception children only.

All full time children will have a visit from a sporting athlete!

Home learning

In reception, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme. The children take home a reading book each week that closely links with their phonics stage. We encourage them to read this as much as possible over the week before returning it to school. You can also take a look at the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Resources for Parents page: For parents | Letters and Sounds (littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk)

We use Tapestry to document your child's learning at school. We encourage you to share any experiences, achievements or successes your child has at home by uploading photos, videos and observations to Tapestry.
